LIVINGSTON---District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux reports that the following individuals appeared in court on September 14, 2009, before Judge Zorraine Waguespack, and either pleaded guilty or no contest or were found guilty of narcotic related offenses and received the following sentences:
Kurt Browning, Denham Springs, LA, age 30 - Pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana and felony theft and was sentenced to serve seven (7) years in the Department of Corrections on the offense of felony theft and six (6) months in parish jail on the offense of possession of marijuana with sentences to be served concurrently. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for four years and ordered to enroll in and complete drug court program, pay a fine of $2,500.00 plus court costs and make restitution.
Charles Byrd, Springfield, LA, age 46 - Pleaded guilty to possession of Schedule II narcotics and was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for three years and ordered to pay court costs.
Richard Lacoste, Walker, LA, age 58 - Pleaded guilty to possession of Schedule II narcotics and possession of Schedule I narcotics and was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections on the offense of possession of Schedule II narcotics and six (6) months in parish jail on the offense of possession of Schedule I narcotics with sentences to be served concurrently. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for three years and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500.00 plus court costs.
Joan Mits, Walker, LA, age 44 - Pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance by fraud and was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for three years and ordered to pay a fine of $1,500.00plus court costs and enroll in and complete drug court program.
The following individuals appeared and either pleaded guilty or on contest or were found guilty of crimes against persons/property and received the following sentences:
Darrett Bradley, Baker, LA, age 21 - Pleaded guilty to simple burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections on each count with sentences to be served concurrently. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for three years and ordered to pay a fine of $1,500.00 plus court costs and make restitution.
Woodrow Reed, New Orleans, LA, age 44 - Pleaded guilty to felony theft and aggravated flight from an officer and was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the Department of Corrections on the offense of felony theft and two (2) years in the Department of Corrections on the offense of aggravated flight from an officer with sentences to be served concurrently. Jail sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on active probation for three years and ordered to pay a fine of $1,500.00 plus court costs.
