IF YOU ARE RAPED...

Rapists do not rape because they suddenly and desperately need sexual gratification.
Surprisingly, many rapists have active sex lives. There has been no supporting research to suggest that these offenders rape to satisfy intense sexual needs. In fact, the rapist's need is to degrade, humiliate, and have ultimate power over his/her victim.

No one is raped because of how he/she looks or acts.
Many people believe that looking or acting sexy can cause you to be raped. People are raped regardless of how they look or act. Both children and the elderly are raped. According to The Bureau of Justice Statistics on Sex Offenses and Offenders, four in 10 imprisoned sex offenders said their victims were under 12. Senior citizens are also raped. It's NOT your fault - you did NOT ask to be raped.

Most victims know the attacker.
Victims are likely to have had a prior relationship as a family member, acquaintance, or intimate partner. The Bureau of Justice reports that in three our of four instances, the offender was not a stranger to the victim. Rape is no less serious because you know the person who raped you.

Most rapes occur in the victims home.
Many people believe that a person was raped because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Bureau of Justice reports that nearly 40% of rapes occur in the victim's home followed by close to 20% of rapes occurring at a neighbor's, friend's or relative's home.

No one deserves to be raped.
A person who stays out late and has a drink does not deserve to be raped anymore that a store owner deserves to be robbed because he only has one lock.
The only person responsible for rape is the rapist.
